As you have been informed, The Melkonian Educational Institute will close as of June 2005. Based on the direct instructions of the AGBU Central Board, I am now writing to you and other parents to update you on developments in regard to the future education of your son, xxxxx

If you choose to have your son return to the MEI for the academic year, 2004-05, AGBU's current plans are as follows: The AGBU is in the process of selecting among several private day schools in Nicosia one school that will provide instruction to some number of Melkonian students who do not graduate by June 2005. For the academic years 2005-06 and 2006-07, boarding students who may have difficulty locating alternative schooling in their home countries will be housed in MEI facilities while they continue their education for up to two years at the selected school to which they will be transported daily. An after school Armenian program will be established and offered at the community center on the Melkonian grounds. In regard to the costs of attending this alternative school, a final decision has not yet been made in regard to the extent of the responsibility to be assumed respectively by parents and AGBU

We assure you that the AGBU is continuing to arrange the best possible alternatives for your child for the continuation of his education beyond June 2005. At the same time, please note that we are ready to assist you if you would wish to consider educational options for your child in your own country, as early as this coming fall or for the period beyond June, 2005.
