I'm writing to inform you of the latest developments regarding the closing of the Melkonian Educational Institute in the Spring of 2005 and the arrangements we can offer for your child's future education. The purpose of this letter is to provide you with information about this arrangement so that you can decide in the near future whether or not you wish to transfer your child to the American Academy.

AGBU has signed an agreement with the American Academy in Nicosia to accept all students currently enrolled in Melkonian beginning in the Fall of 2005.

The American Academy was founded in 1922.  It offers 14 courses of study leading to the IGCSE (Cambridge University), GCE (London University) "O" level exams. Additionally, they offer 10 courses leading to the GCE (Cambridge) "A" or "AS" level exams.

The secondary school building has 28 classrooms, as well as physics, chemistry and biology labs, and a state-of-the-art computer lab. There is also a large examination and conference room, a modern auditorium, a gymnasium and a fitness room with personal training equipment.

All of the teaching staff have been approved by the Ministry of Education and Culture and all are graduates of universities.

The Academy is a not-for-profit school that is managed by the American Academy Council whose members are parents and local business executives.  Its web site can be found at
