MELKONIAN IS CLOSING     (Translation)

Information from the United States confirm that Melkonian Highschool's function will desist after 77 years in operation.

  The school's administration is aware of last year's publications and rumours according to which Armenian General Benevolent Union (A.G.B.U.) considers the school's function in Nicosia to be unprofitable.
  The school's administration asked the Council in New York for information concerning its future but the letters of enquiry have remained unanswered.
  Even though the interest towards the school has no ceased, the uncertainty as to its future has lead to a decrease in the number of students.
  According to information from a member of the school's administration, doctor Vahakn Atamian, the Central Council which will meet in Paris between the 13-15 of November, will probably anounce it's decisions.
  In a telephone conversation with RIK, Dr. Atamian expressed his bitterness towards the plans of Armenians from America to sell Melkonian land which has been valued at 40 million pounds, in order to open a school in a different area or possibly in another country.
