To
brief you on all the meetings that took place in the last week, be it
with B Setrakian,K Yacoubian,Demirjian and Bchakjian.
-selling
is on the agenda,
-what to do with the amount is yet to be known, the topic is under
discussion for future plans within the agbu board.
-mei's exitence doesn't justify anymore
since in the last 2 to 3 decades instead of mei using its students, the
students have used the institution. i.e. coming from lebanon (during
the war), iran,(it was a bridge to usa mostly), no more lebanese armenian
since the war has stopped, not a lot from Syria
there hardly are any graduates who became 'azkayin kortzounia' and so
on
-financially, they are looking at the it from a differnet point of
view. i.e. they are saying that the actual income of the school is from
the
tuition fees which is about 400,000$, the income from the commercial
centers and other incomes aren't considered a direct income to mei and
that they have control on it.
-the 'gdag' as per the agbu members has been studied for some 7-8
months by specialists/lawyers in this field and that it gives them right
to
sell
here
are some of the notes i took down as well during the meeting that
will give you an idea of how they are looking at MEI.
after the 70s MEI has stopped producing public workers in the armenian
sector, 80s and up from various countries in the ME that had unrest in
their countries studied in MEI and moved on to different areas in the
world, the current attendants in MEI these are mostly from Armenia (why
accepting armenians from armenia was questioned too),from Cy about 35
and they are day students, Russia and Balkan...hence mei has lost its
mission and it's existence is not justifying
mei
is an opportunity cost to agbu that it's selling could be invested
in other ways.
-in one of those meetings the sub committee were also told that mei has
accepted students from broken families, it's the church's job to handlethese issues students not agbu's.
-another example given was that in Syria there are 1600 student in the
agbu schools and the tuition fees can get max to a few hundred US
Dollars, isn't it better to invest in 1600 rather then 250 who are costing
a
million usd something??!!!
-that the school's capacity is 400 and there are 250 student
-why are there non armenian students in MEI.
many
more points like this were given during the meetings that took
place with the agbu members.
just
to let you know, that during the meetings were present, S Apoyan,
Z Gharibian, N Chekherdmian, S Toumayan,K Poladian.
MEI
was being compared to other schools, which dont have its
characteristics. agbu is looking at things from a global point of view.
Like it
should not be compared to Syrian, Lebanese, Eatern Europe etc.standard
of living.
If
anyone from LB has anything else to add please do so, to allow
everyone to have more info and insight to what's going on.
Lebanon
alumni's decisions, and point of views
1-the mei's board members (hokapartzou will submit a letter on their
behalf to AGBU)
2-Offical annoucement to the newspapers (
3-taking careful well thought steps to avoid loose ends
4-it is again suggested to not print out the joint declaration in the
newspapers as still the members feel it needs modifying, as yet the 2
parag. under the PRIME LOCATION still are in print; no need to mention
the new elected Cyprus alumni or any other newly formed alumni, just the
names of the countries to show a united front would suffice as advised
by Garo K.
5-to coordinate with mr Ouzounian and continue in our everyday updates
with each other.
Please
waiting for your feedback and your comments.
